The Essential Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks are hands down one of my favorite e.l.f. lip products. I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to write a review.

The Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks are widely available at Target and Kmart stores, though not all shades may be stocked.

Packaging

Each gloss is packaged in a white, matte plastic tube and features a twist-up bottom so you don’t have to use a pencil sharpener. A clear cap protects the gloss while the other end is colored in a similar shade as the gloss. Some shades are more accurate than others, but overall they’re surprisingly close.

The stick format makes precise application a breeze.

Not sure if this is a problem, but I’ve not had any issues with the product breaking.

Formulation

e.l.f. calls this a lip gloss, presumably due to the sheer consistency, though I’d probably just call it a light weight lipstick.

I adore the Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick formula. It is very moisturizing. No need to put anything on underneath; just apply and go.

I didn’t realize I’d buy more JLGSs, hence the used product photo. :/

Since they are glosses, all apply sheer. Some glosses have large glitter flakes–that are noticeable when applied–while others shades are cremes.

The glosses do contain a mild minty flavor that some may find objectionable.

Shades

There is a good assortment of shades to give all undertones something to work with. So far I own five shades, reviewed below.

In the Nude [Creme]

Unfortunately, this is little different than putting concealer on my lips. If you were a fan of e.l.f. Minerals Natural Nymph, you should also like this shade, because they are nearly identical.

Pink Umbrellas [Creme]

This shade is a true pink with cool undertones. I like to pair it with green or purple eyeshadows.

It is one of the few true pinks that actually works with my skin tone.

Tiki Torches [Glitter]

The coral shade. A great warm shade for summer with gold glitter.

If the thought of wearing tangerine lipstick makes you balk, try Tiki Torches instead. It’s peachy enough to be flattering, but without the overt orange overtones of tangerine.

Summer Nights [Glitter]

It doesn’t seem it, but this shade is nearly identical to Tiki Torches, albeit not as coral. A sheer neutral with lots of gold sparkles.

It’s probably the shade I use most often.

Sangria Starters [Creme]

Sangria Starters is a wine shade.

This is the darkest shade of the Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks that I own. Fortunately, it is sheer enough that I can usually pull it off. It’s great when I want something a little more dramatic than normal.

Pros: Moisturizing, good spectrum of shades, economically priced
Cons: Could use more shades, mint flavor may be off-putting to some

As I’ve said throughout the review, I really love the e.l.f. Essential Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks.

The e.l.f. Essential line is notorious for being hit or miss, but this product is definitely a winner. For $2 a piece, I highly recommend you visit your nearest Target to give ’em a try, or stock up during the next e.l.f. sale.
