Last week while I was at Ulta to take advantage of the 40% Physicians Formula sale, I took a gander at their scratch & dent clearance section. In the midst of trying to decide if I should peel off the clearance stickers on some NYX eyeshadows to check the ingredients, I spotted a lone box of the Alicia Silverstone for Juice Beauty Irresistible Glow Facial Highlighter (henceforth referred to as the IGFH). Normally the product retails for $22, but it was on clearance for 50% off. Since I had my eye on the IGFH for a while, there was not any questions as to whether I would purchase it.

As a matter of disclosure, Juice Beauty had initially decided to sell their products in China, but ultimately reversed their decision. Read more here.

Packaging

The box I found was just a wee bit dented. I’m not sure if the dented box was the reason why it was being clearanced or if the IGFH was being clearanced from Ulta altogether (it’s no longer on the Ulta website). Aside from the box, the product inside was pristine.

Box packaging.

Initially I did have a problem twisting up the product. It just spun around and nothing happened. I didn’t know what to do because it wasn’t like I could exchange it for another. I eventually figured out that if I held onto the base and twisted the top part of the packaging, I could get the product to come up. Since then I haven’t had any issues with twisting the IGFH up or down.

I don’t know if this is an inherent flaw of the packaging, or just isolated to mine. I know I have had similar problems with the e.l.f. All Over Color Sticks in the past.

and Purely Kissable Lip Color

The IGFH is packaged in a similar tube as the Purely Kissable Lip Color from the same line, but is much larger.

The pink paper recyclable packaging is cute, but easily scuffed. I have kept the similarly packaged Purely Kissable Lip Color standing upright with all of my other lipsticks and it has accumulated all sorts of black marks, as you can see in the photo above.

Formulation

It occurred to me that I had spent eleven dollars on a product that is very similar to the e.l.f. All Over Color Stick. Of course, the Juice Beauty version is larger and contains organic and natural ingredients, whereas e.l.f.’s ingredients can be questionable.

The consistency is good. It is a moisturizing product without being too oily, and works well for those with dry skin.

Eco-friendly cardboard packaging.

While the initial color payoff is quite good, I’ve noticed that the product doesn’t last long. It unfortunately seems to fade after an hour or so. I’m disappointed because I expect more from a >$20 product.

I’ve tried using the IGFH as both a blush and a highlighter. Both ways fade quickly, but it seems more noticeable when using as a blush because it’s obvious when it disappears.

There is no added fragrance. The only scent is from the combination of the heavy butters used. I think it smells better than the Purely Kissable Lip Color.

Shade

The IGFH is only available in one shade. It seems that the product is more suited to those with lighter skin tones, especially when used as a blush, though I suppose it would do a fair job highlighting most skin tones.

and Purely Kissable Lip Color

The peachy-pink shade gives a natural looking glow to the skin. The IGFH reminds me a little of the e.l.f. All Over Color Stick in Golden Peach. It’s a pity the product doesn’t last long because it’s a very pretty color.

Unlike the Purely Kissable Lip Color that is a creme and does not have any shimmer, there is a slight pearl finish to this product.

Final Thoughts

Pros: Eco-friendly packaging, flattering pink shade, organic ingredients
Cons: Not a particularly long lasting formula, only available in one shade, pearl finish, cardboard packaging is easily scuffed

I’m glad to finally get my hands on the IGFH. I didn’t want to spend full price on it, so I’m glad I managed to get it on clearance.

I’m hesitant to recommend the product at full price because it fades too quickly—nor do I think it’s really a one-size-fits-all product. The one shade will work well with many skin tones, but not all.

You might as well stick with the e.l.f. Essential All Over Color Stick (some of my swatches here). They have decent color payoff, last hours, and are only a buck.
