Overview

Rating: 4/5 stars ★★★★☆
Price Tag: $11.99 USD
Where to Buy: In stores like Walmart and Ulta; online at drugstore.com, ecotools.com

With summer around the corner, the Face & Body Sculpting Brush by ecoTOOLS is a good alternative to self tanners. You can find the brush at most locations where ecoTOOLS products are sold.

Product

The bristles are dense and super soft. They feel like my uber fluffy cat, Bear. The bristles are of course vegan and cruelty-free as they are constructed with Taklon, a synthetic fiber often used in paint and makeup brushes.

I have not had any issues with shedding. If you can’t tell from the photos, the bristles are a magnet for random fuzz.

The bamboo base is large and sturdy. The brand name is imprinted on the left side of the front, while the words “Face & Body Sculpting” is printed along the right side on the back.

ecoTOOLS Face & Body Sculpting Brush size comparison with my hand.

This brush is huge. It’s almost as large as my hand.

Performance

While this brush is made for bronzing, it is not intended for sculpting your face, despite what the name implies. You can use the brush to add some color to your hairline, but that’s about it. It’s not adequate for contouring your cheeks. The front of the box’s packaging doesn’t even mention using it on the face.

You use the brush to apply large amounts of color quickly to your arms, neck, collarbone, etc., for a fake bake. It’s a good alternative to using a self tanning product when you may prefer a quick, temporary tan.

Brush comparison (from left to right): ecoTOOLS Face & Body Sculpting Brush, ecoTOOLS Sheer Finish Kabuki Brush,
ecoTOOLS Retractable Kabuki brush (vintage version), and the e.l.f. Studio Kabuki Face Brush.

I’m not sure about the sculpting claim. The brush seems to large to do anything other than putting bronzer in one layer all over the body. Unless they mean that by applying bronzing you are automatically sculpting your features.

I don’t usually apply bronzer all over my body, so I don’t have a lot of use for the brush. However, it does a good job with its singular purpose and I foresee myself using it more this summer. I had a missed opportunity a couple of days ago when I wore a dress and realized that I had forgot to apply self tanner to my legs.

Final Thoughts

Pros: Super soft bristles, sturdy construction, economically priced
Cons: Created for a very specific purpose, lacks versatility, large size

The Face & Body Sculpting Brush has one purpose and it does that very well. While I like the quality and construction of the brush, I’m not thrilled with the lack of versatility.

If you like to apply bronzer to your shoulders and collarbone area instead of self tanner, I would recommend giving the brush a try.
