Throwback Thursday: Cream Shadow Collection Everyday Eye Palette

Back in Fall 2011, e.l.f. released a bumper crop of new products for its then exclusive Beauty School collection at Target. The box packaging was really neat, with their faux notebook sides. Included in the promotion was the Cream Shadow Collection: a cream version of the 6 pan eyeshadow palettes. Since I was already a big fan of the pressed powder shadows, I was excited to try the cream version.

Unfortunately, this product suffers from the same pitfalls as the Essential Duo Eye Shadow Creams: waxy, greasy products that lack pigment, and crease after a short wear time.

Swatches for the Cream Shadow Collection

Though there haven’t been any more limited edition—or regular edition—cream eyeshadow palettes since, e.l.f. did release the much better quality Essential Smudge Pots, as well as including three similar cream shadows in the Big Lots limited edition Holiday 2012 Beauty Book: Smoky Eye as eyeliners (read my post for this palette here).

Final Thoughts

Overall the shadows in the Beauty School Cream Shadow Collection aren’t very good, even accounting for the $3 price tag. The formulation quality just isn’t there. It’s great as a collector’s piece, but little more.

And that’s too bad, because this is an interesting little palette.
