e.l.f. LE Sets + Vegan Friendly Holiday Options at Walgreens {Spotted}

 

Over the past couple of weeks, my Walgreens has been sporadically putting out holiday sets. While most sets are obviously not vegan, there are a surprising amount of options if you take the time to look. Profusion and L.A. Colors are your best bets for holiday products other than nail polish. Don’t bother with the makeup kits that invariably have beeswax/lanolin liners and lip products. Instead look for the individual palettes for the most success. Wet n Wild also has a ton of sets, though most are not suitable for vegans outside their many polish sets.

So far I’ve only seen a fraction of the e.l.f. sets available, and those have mostly been the small ones. If you’re having difficulty locating them in Walgreens stores, you can find some of this year’s offerings online.

There are far too many sets to go over which are and aren’t vegan, so I’ll tell you what I’ve picked up so far.

L.A. Colors 6 Color Eyeshadow Palette

You may have seen these at Dollar Tree, but those list carmine on the ingredients. I’m not exactly sure what is going on, but the Walgreens specific versions have different ingredient labels than the original. The shades are also slightly different from those sold at Dollar Tree. You can compare the two shades I purchased—Haute and Playful— with the Dollar Tree version of Haute reviewed on Nouveau Cheap. Playful looks much more similar to the original Haute, although more neutral and less pink than the latter.

You can find the L.A. Colors palettes in the stocking stuffers display for $1. Mine was located in between the main two aisles that cut the store in half.

e.l.f. Stocking Stuffers

Like last year, Walgreens has several e.l.f. ornaments/stocking stuffers, including various eyeliners, Essential Lip Balm Tints, and Essential Super Glossy Lip Shines. All are $2.

I picked up a Super Glossy Lip Shine in Tropical Breeze, which I believe is a repeat from last year.

Profusion Smoky Palette

There are three versions available, but I find the Smoky palette to be the most neutral. This is a surprising well made palette, considering the price. While it’s not the best eyeshadow I’ve ever tried, overall I’ve been pleased with the quality for the price.

The palettes are $1. I found the displays in the beauty section reserved for LE collections, up front near the door, with all the other holiday sets.

e.l.f. Pucker & Pout Set

I had planned to buy this set through e.l.f., but when I saw it on one of my many Walgreens visits, I went ahead and picked it up. It’s not exactly going to break the bank, so to speak.

As I expected, the Essential Lipstick is in the shade Fearless—the best vegan true red around. I initially thought the clear Plumping Lip Gloss (no name on box or tube) was the same as that of the original, now extinct Plumping Lip Glaze, but the latter is more pearlescent, whereas the former has a glitter finish (not really noticeable once applied).

While I like the aesthetics of the LE black lipstick tube, the lid does not fit well and is always coming off. Quality was never the Essential Lipstick’s strong point. I’m always hoping that e.l.f. will reformulate the lipsticks and raise the price to $2 in order to fix the many design flaws.
