Zum Face Walnut Sugar Facial Scrub {Review}
Pros: Smells good, works great, jar contains a lot of product, includes many certified organic ingredients
Cons: More expensive than your average grocery store brand, scent combination is a little strange
I picked this up at my local Hy-Vee–a chain of Midwest grocery stores based in Iowa–mostly as an impulse buy. Some readers may remember that Hy-Vee carries a small collection of e.l.f. products. I really like scrubs, even if they tend to dry and irritate my skin.
Packaging:
I’d say the $8 USD price tag is fair given that this is a niche company and an organic product. The same product retails for $12 on Zum’s website. The jar is also very large, holding 5 oz. worth of product.
The packaging is a stout plastic, wide-mouth jar with a metal lid and completely full of product. The usage directions only mention how to apply the scrub, but never suggests how often.
Product:
I purchased the Rosemary-Mint scent. I think that’s all Hy-Vee carried. Zum also sells a version in Lemongrass.
Scrubs are fairly straight forward in terms of performance and this is a typical product. As the name states, this is a brown sugar/walnut based product. A little goes along way and left my skin silky smooth–though I did need to apply moisturizer more heavily than usual afterward.
I’m pleased with the scrub. Even though it’s brown sugar based, the rosemary and mint give it a distinct herbal fragrance. Due to the sugar, I expected it to smell much sweeter than it was, but the rosemary and mint are very potent.
I’ve used plenty of scrubs in the past, both for the face and body. I’ve also used brown sugar based body polishers, but this is the first time I’ve used one for my face. I double-checked the ingredients label dozens of time for honey, a common scrub ingredient. Otherwise, the ingredients are few and simple.
Rosemary-Mint Ingredients
Certified organic cane sugar, saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor, and certified organic jojoba, essential oils, tocopherol (vitamin E), sodium borate, walnut powder and vegetable glycerin.
Final Thoughts:
Definitely a good scrub. If I ever finish the jar, I would buy this product again.
borax is a horrible ingredient… you can make your own scrub at home, it is very cheap and works the same!
