e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick’s Easter Egg

Ever wonder why the plastic end colors on the e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick tube are so accurate to the product shade? That’s because it is the lipstick itself. I recently discovered via the e.l.f. website that the end on the lipstick pops off to reveal a little pot of lip color. Of course this only applies to the new tubes, not the original metal versions.

While e.l.f. refers to it as a balm, it’s just the lipstick itself in a pot form. It even has the same vanilla scent.

Not gonna lie. The first time you try to remove the transparent plastic end from the lipstick base is extremely difficult. It’s wedged in there tight. You will probably doubt at some point that the base can even be removed. This is why I have photos, to prove it’s possible. Just keep at it by wiggling the plastic base back and forth until it rises enough to wedge something like a fingernail between the lip pot and lipstick base. After it finally pops off, it’ll be much easier to remove in the future.

This isn’t the first time e.l.f. has added a secret base to one of their products. The colored plastic part of the Studio Matte Lip Color pops off to reveal a sharpener (my review for Matte Lipstick can be found here).

The lip color pot and lipstick are the same shade.

I kind of wonder why e.l.f. doesn’t tell their customers about these little Easter eggs. I checked the official Studio Moisturizing Lipstick description and there was nothing about it. I seriously thought people were trolling in the reviews when they mentioned the removable base.

And how do people even figure this stuff out in the first place? I don’t think I’d ever look at a tube of lipstick and expect there to be more than lipstick.
