Pacifica Radiant Shimmer Coconut Multiples {Review}

Pros: Gorgeous packaging, lovely scent
Cons: Poor color payoff, thin consistency

I picked this shimmer palette up in a Target haul a while back, but never got around to reviewing it.

Pacifica is an all vegan line now available at Target stores. I did find some lotions that contained crushed pearls at T.J.Maxx, but Pacifica seems to have discontinued that line.

From what I’ve read online, the company is mostly known for their perfumes. Seeing them at Target was my first interaction with the brand and as I was looking at makeup, didn’t really notice the perfume. At first glance, I was a bit leery. Experience has taught me to expect nicely packaged, natural products to not be vegan, but I was shocked to find all the products labeled as vegan on the packaging.

It’s interesting to note that this is now the second vegan brand Target carries, after e.l.f. (apart from the animal hair brushes). I think this is a very positive step forward.

Rating: B
Price: $11.99 at Target
Where to Purchase: Target.com, Pacifica

It seems like every brand today has a certain ingredient they build their line around. Pacifica is no different with coconut as their buzz ingredient.

Packaging

The products boxes are incredible. They have gorgeous colors and are foiled in an Indian inspired pattern. Seriously amazing.

Pacifica foiled product boxes.

I love, love the white packaging. In a makeup world ruled by black compacts, the glossy white, paper packaging is a breath of fresh air. There is a huge plastic window in lieu of a mirror, the paper is covered with a pale yellow, henna like pattern and the palette features a hidden magnetic closure. The name and product type are also foiled in gold, like the product boxes.

On the inside of the box there is text that reads, “you are so pretty”. Aww, thanks.

Formulation

Despite the heavy marketing, the product itself does not live up to what the packaging promises.

The consistency appears very creamy, but it applies thin and not nearly as moisturizing as you would expect. It’s nothing compared to the e.l.f. Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Cream. The shimmers quickly dry down to a satin finish.

The scent is amazing, though. Kinda coconut and fruity. Very playful.

All three shades are super shimmery. There’s not always much color, but there’s definitely shimmer. It’s a very fine glitter, not flakes. The shimmers come off as illuminating, but that can also make your face appear oily if you’re not careful.

Shades

I didn’t remember until I visited the website, but the Radiant Shimmers have names. They were there on the back of the box when I went to process the photos. Anyway, here’s this from Pacifica.com:

Bronzed: Perfectly glowing sun-kissed color with golden shimmer shadow

Island Rose: shimmering, radiant dewy pink shadow

Moonlit: Iridescent pale shades of moon-kissed shimmer

I noticed that the images on both Target and Pacifica websites are much more accurate than the photos I took.

Color Payoff

The color payoff is disappointing. I think the three colors are designed as a highlighter, cheek color, and bronzer. While quite different in the palette, the two pinks, Moonlit and Island Rose, don’t appear to be much different from each other once applied to the face. Bronzed is by far the color I’ve used most, even as a cheek color.

Swatches of Pacifica Radiant Shimmer Coconut Multiples

The website says that the colors are buildable, but it takes a mighty lot of layers for Island Rose (middle color) to be noticeable as pink and not just shimmer. It could have something to do with the pinks not showing up on my warm undertoned skin.

I would say that the Radiant Shimmer Coconut Multiples have a similar payoff to the e.l.f. Studio Shimmer Palette, though this collection from Pacifica is three times the cost and thinner consistency. On the other hand, you’re paying for higher quality makeup with much better ingredients, plus you have to consider the high quality packaging.

The Nitty-Gritty

This isn’t the best product Pacifica has. I’m still happy I tried the Radiant Shimmer Coconut Multiples, but I’m hesitant to recommend it.

If $12 doesn’t sound like a lot of money to throw at a product that might not pan out, go for it. Otherwise, there are probably better options out there.
