5 Vegan Daily Moisturizers & Serums for Dry Skin

Do you suffer from dry skin?

That unpleasant tightness? The annoying flakes that appear no matter how much moisturizer you pack on your face? That supposedly moisturizing bar soap for dry skin that is anything but? Does showering and washing dishes leave your hands cracked and you in tears? Has your family confused you with a lizard?

Okay, so that last one may have gone too far.

I have suffered from dry skin for fifteen years. It’s more than just annoying; It’s physically painful. It doesn’t help that I have lived in Iowa these last ten years. As I’m writing this article, the temperature is 8′ outside. That’s cold.

Needless to say, I have had ample time to experiment with many facial products over the years. Below you will find my personal recommendations for vegan moisturizers. These are all products I have personally tried and feel confident recommending.

Cream Moisturizers

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Jasmine & Vitamin E Moisture Cream

1. Alba Botanica Hawaiian Jasmine & Vitamin E Moisture Cream

{makeupfu} Rating: A+
Moisturizing Power: A-
Price: $12-$20* USD
Where to Buy: At Target, Walmart, drugstores, & grocery stores, albabotanica.com, drugstore.com

This is my holy grail moisturizer. I have used it more than any other product—for at least ten years. In fact, I’m probably going to have to go back to it soon, because the other brands I’m using aren’t quite cutting it.

It has a creamy—yet not greasy—consistency, smells great, and most importantly, works. I often use it together with the matching Alba Botanica Hawaiian Coconut Milk Facial Wash, another long time staple of mine.

True Natural Anti-Aging Rose Day Cream

2. True Natural Anti-Aging Rose Day Cream

{makeupfu} Rating: A
Moisturizing Power: B
Price: $45* USD
Where to Buy: lovetruenatural.com

I wondered why I only received a sample jar of this moisturizer in my True Beauty Box. Then I learned that it cost $45 a jar.

If you are able to afford it, this is a very good product for dry skin. I think it’s targeted at those with mature skin, but that’s okay because dry skin needs overlap with mature skin needs. There is the issue of the moisturizer making the skin feel tight during the dry down, but the feeling is temporary.

My favorite part of this moisturizer is the scent. It smells like a mixture of roses and almonds.

DressGreen Cafe & Shea Moisture Cream

3. DressGreen Cafe & Shea Moisture Cream

{makeupfu} Rating: B+
Moisturizing Power: A+
Price: $9.95* USD
Where to Buy: dressgreen.net, etsy.com

Previously reviewed. This is what you use when nothing else works in the dead of winter and you’re in agony. This product is basically shea butter with a few other heavy butters and oils thrown in.

It smells heavenly (if you are a fan of coffee, that is), but due to the high amount of fatty butters, it will make your skin quite oily. Then again, it might not matter to you if you are in agony due to the cold.

DressGreen Protective & Moisturizing Facial Cream

4. DressGreen Protective & Moisturizing Facial Cream

{makeupfu} Rating: B
Moisturizing Power: B
Price: $9* USD
Where to Buy: dressgreen.net, etsy.com

This is the lighter version of the Dress Green Cafe & Shea Moisture Cream. It has a creamy consistency, more comparable to the Alba Botanica Hawaiian Jasmine & Vitamin E Moisture Cream. My favorite thing about this moisturizer —as well as my husband’s—is that it smell like coffee (due to the coffee and cocoa seeds oil).

As much as I love the product, I find it on the watery side and not moisturizing enough to work during the coldest winter months.

Benecos Natural Day Cream Q10

5. Benecos Natural Day Cream Q10

{makeupfu} Rating: B
Moisturizing Power: B-
Price: $16* USD
Where to Buy: lovetruenatural.com

Previously reviewed. This is a good economical product for dry skin. I received it in my July True Beauty Box. At first I didn’t think it worked well for dry skin because it has a tendency to make the skin feel tight as it dries. But after the initial dry down, the moisturizer does do a good job of keeping the skin hydrated.

This is more suited for mildly dry skin and/or fall months, before the real winter kicks in.

Serums/Oils

Besides daily moisturizers, I’ve taken to adding oils to my skin regimen in an effort to keep the flakes away. There are a few days I can even get away with just using a serum.

Serums also work as great moisture boosters. I’ve been know to apply them during the day as my skin dries out. Even right over my face makeup (not the eye makeup).

Seventh Generation Boosts Skin Serum

1. Seventh Generation Boosts Skin Serum

{makeupfu} Rating: A
Moisturizing Power: A
Price: $15* USD
Where to Buy: At Walgreens, drugstore.com

This is a very good—not to mention economical—formula. Unlike pure argan oil, the formulation is much thicker. The scent is slightly off-putting, though simply a by-product of a natural product, not from anything added.

I like to use the Hydrating version, thought I’m not sure if it matters.

NOW Solutions Argan Oil

2. NOW Solutions Argan Oil

{makeupfu} Rating: A
Moisturizing Power: A-
Price: $16.99* USD
Where to Buy: At natural foods stores, drugstore.com

Previously reviewed. I’d you are looking for a 100% pure and certified organic argan oil product at an economical price, NOW Foods has you covered. This is a good product—and argan oil is all the rage at the moment—though it’s not as heavy as the Seventh Generation Boosts Skin Serums.

DressGreen Smoothing & Reparative Serum

3. DressGreen Serums

{makeupfu} Rating: A
Moisturizing Power: A
Price: $8* USD
Where to Buy: dressgreen.net, etsy.com

Previously reviewed. I always love DressGreen products and once again DG provides another economical facial care solution. There are five different types available, including the Smoothing & Reparative Serum and Purifying & Blemish Controlling Serum.

Root Science RS Youth Serum

4. Root Science RS Youth Serum

{makeupfu} Rating: A-
Moisturizing Power: A-
Price: $59* USD ($5 1/8 oz sample)
Where to Buy: shoprootscience.com

I received a sample sized product in my October Petit Vour box. This is a nice serum, though it possesses an overwhelming lavender scent that I’m not fond of (I’m not a fan of lavender). It’s not an added fragrance, just the effect of the essential oils.

It’s on the pricy side, but it does a good job hydrating the skin. Again, it’s not quite as heavy as the Seventh Generation Boosts Serum.

RMS Beauty Oil

5. RMS Beauty Oil

{makeupfu} Rating: B+
Moisturizing Power: A
Price: $74* USD
Where to Buy: rmsbeauty.com

I hesitated to put this on the list because it’s really expensive and I fully believe it’s over priced. However, it is a nice product, smells absolutely heavenly, and works.

Final Thoughts

Obviously, there are still bunches of vegan daily moisturizers I have yet to try and I’m waiting to see if anything will top my favorite Alba Botanica Hawaiian Jasmine & Vitamin E Moisture Cream.
