e.l.f. Studio Poreless Face Primer

e.l.f. came out with the Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer (mini review here) several years back. I think the product is intended to mimic the Smashbox Photo Finish primers. I can’t account for accuracy, but I do know that I stopped wearing the Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer literally (not figuratively) after two uses because it dried out my skin so badly that it’s borderline painful.

Despite my dismal results, I was intrigued to see that e.l.f. has just released two new Studio Face Primers: the Studio Poreless Face Primer and Studio Hydrating Face Primer. I am especially interested in the latter product as a chronic dry skin sufferer.

Unlike the Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer that is newly available in four shades, both of the new face primers only come in a clear shade. It’s unclear as to whether the two new primers will be expanded in the future.

The packaging for the Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer is a plastic bottle, but the images for the new primers seem like they might be glass. I kind of doubt it though, since all three are the same weight and price.

Below is some basic info on both products. Please note that I do not own either of the new primers at the time of writing, so I cannot comment on product quality.

So, lots of dimethicones and parabens.

Studio Hydrating Face Primer

Price: $6 USD
Shades Available: 1 shade
Weight: 14 g
Where to Buy: eyeslipsface.com

Claims (from the e.l.f. website):

Boosts your complexion with a drench of hydration, creating a perfect canvas for radiant, younger looking skin. Infused with Grape and Vitamins A, C, & E for nourishing and anti-aging benefits. This multipurpose clear skin primer reduces the appearance of fine lines and transforms your face into a flawless and smooth canvas so makeup goes on evenly for a long-lasting finish.

Ingredients listing (from the e.l.f. website):

Dimethicone, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Dimethicon Crosspolymer, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate (Ve), Retinyl Palmitate (Va), Ascorbyl Dipalmate (Vc).

The amount of dimethicones in this product concerns me. My skin does not handle them at all and I think they’re the reason I can’t wear the original Studio Mineral Infused Primer.

I guess I’ll just have to try the Studio Hydrating Face Primer to see if it works.
