Throwback Thursday: e.l.f. Bath & Body Soothing Bath Gel

Today’s throwback Thursday post takes a look at the discontinued e.l.f. Bath & Body Soothing Bath Gels.

The e.l.f. Bath & Body line hasn’t been around for some years, but that didn’t stop my local Hy-Vee Drugstore from carrying the Soothing Bath Gels. At first, they were $3 or $4, but were soon reduced to a dollar. After my local Hy-Vee grocery store completed its remodeling last year, the drugstore was unfortunately closed due to being redundant.

Over the past few months, bottles of the Soothing Bath Gel have sporadically popped up in the clearance sections of the remodeled Hy-Vee. The only explanation I can think of to explain their sudden appearance is that they are leftover stock from the now defunct drugstore. Wherever they come from, the bath washes are sold for $1, when available.

Going by blog reviews, the Bath & Body line was introduced in 2007 with five products —Bath Gel, Hand Cream, Body Lotion, Body Butter, and Hand Soap—sold for $4 apiece. The original scents were Peony Petal, Cucumber Melon, Vanilla Coconut, Pineapple Mango, and Lavender Blossom. The line was eventually expanded to include the scents Candied Strawberry, Cherry Berry, Shea Butter, and Milk & Honey. It appears the Bath & Body line was intended to be Bath & Body Works dupes. My research indicates that the line was discontinued at some point after 2011.

I think I’ve tried most of the scents—excluding Lavender Blossom and Milk & Honey—although I discovered that one or two scents contained a non-vegan ingredient like honey or something. I think Pineapple Mango was one and Milk & Honey was most likely the other. Unfortunately, I cannot locate any ingredients listings other than the four I currently own to confirm.

I’m trying to recall if I tried a Bath & Body line product other than the bath gels. I feel like I bought the hand cream or maybe the body lotion, but I can’t remember for sure. If I had realized that e.l.f. was going to discontinue the Bath & Body line I would have tried some of the other products, or at least stocked up.

In any case, I really like the e.l.f. Soothing Bath Gels and was disappointed when they were discontinued. e.l.f. seems keen to streamline their brand and has been steadily removing product lines over the years, with the Sugarkiss and Mineral lines being a couple of others. The last remnants of the Bath & Body line can by found in the Studio Lotion Wipes, which has six of the scents.
